Wayne decided to pull out all the stops with the rebuild – he even acquired enormous replicas of movie icons from the Alien, Predator and Transformers movies.

But it’s not just the look of the models that impresses – it’s what they can do. Matrix Automation was contracted to design a smart home system, wired the automated figures into the C-Bus system and provided sequence animation.

We drilled out the heads of the autobot transformers to add some LED lights, so it looks like they’re alive.  For the Predator we put lasers in his guns to align with his appearance in the movies. Then for the Alien, to give it a bit of wow factor we put a coloured LED strip inside his chest so it looks like he is slimy and radiating.

The PDL by Schneider Electric C-Bus system runs the whole house as well as the garage. The family can “drive” everything from an iPad, iPhone, graphical buttons or descriptive switches.

If Wayne wants to turn on the telly, he just pushes the TV button icon.  He doesn’t care how it works. He loves that he has all this whizz-bang technology and doesn’t have to think about how to use it.

“I didn’t want to wander around the house switching stuff on and off,” says Wayne. “So we automated a bunch of switching that makes things effortless.”
